Liliokalani

This past weekend I had my first dive into the restaurant business.

Every year Kona, Hawaii hosts the biggest outrigger canoe race in the world; its called Liliokalani. Canoe teams from all different countries travel here just to compete. It’s an exciting weekend of races, long days in the sun, and some very hungry athletes. Every year during this weekend of races, Holoholo ministries set up a pop-up restaurant on the pier and serves food to athletes, their families, and anyone else looking for a good meal. It’s an opportunity to serve the local community of Hawaii and international canoe teams looking to try some local food.

Running a restaurant on the pier from dawn to dusk is quite the feat. But with a team that is dedicated to hard work and serving with excellence, this weekend was a huge success!

I worked on the front line of the restaurant and got to have conversations with the athletes and their families. It was amazing to see how proud the families were. And it was a blessing to be able to encourage the athletes before their race and then follow up with them afterwards.

Something that God has taught me this past weekend is that alone I can accomplish a little for the kingdom of heaven. But together with my team in Holoholo, we can accomplish big things. God wants us to work together to serve those around us. We’re better together.

So here are a few pictures of the restaraunt and my team as we worked together to make this restaurant come to life.

It was a beautiful weekend and I am looking forward to what is coming next as we prepare for the DTS students to arrive in October.
