Resistance comes in many forms. From car problems (we’ve had more than our share lately) to logistical quagmires; from unexpected costs to utterly unexplainable and bizarre occurrences we have felt a great deal of resistance as we ready ourselves to launch tomorrow. Even though we persevere and even improve through adversity, resistance can be painful. Friction … burns.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
While we definitely don’t want to try and claim that our minor setbacks in any way compare to those suffered by our brothers who are being persecuted, we do need to recognize and acknowledge their presence and affect. Otherwise we may be tempted to take setbacks and resistance at face-value, rather than the natural consequences of a spiritual undertaking.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 6:12
Arrows, flames, and darts visited upon us by the enemy of our souls hurt. There is no denying this. But they cannot touch what is hidden in Christ. They cannot pierce the armor of God.
